I am currently a special education teaching assistant and also a respite care provider for children with special needs. The state funded agencies I work for are having their funds cut so I will no longer have this position. Special education position for past 7 years, grades K-3rd, teaching math, reading, and writing. Providing respite care in families' homes for past 3 years. In homes I have taken care of a range of needs; behavior disorders along with Autism and Downs Syndrome, cerebral palsy, verbal and nonverbal (learning talker -- iPad), G-Tube feedings, administering medicines, changing diapers, working on potty training, working with siblings to play and understand the child with special needs. Assist with school work. My empathy is for the families who are looking for additional help. I feel a great personal fulfillment when the families see me and are so happy that they will get someone they can fully trust to care for their child(ren). But most important is to see that beautiful, bright child grow and develop to the best of their abilities, physically and mentally.
