Currently work for DCPS (D.C. Public Schools) as a Dedicated Aide/Paraprofessional under the SPED (Special Education) program; a profession that I've been in for a little over five years now. I currently work with a 19-year-old young adult who has an intellectual disability; a job that has proven to be both difficult and rewarding. Knowing that I can give myself and positively effect and influence a child's future, is the most precious and amazing thing I've ever experienced. "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." I truly believe wholeheartedly in that Proverb and although I do not have a degree, teaching has become one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. Besides assisting my student, I'm often called upon to come up with new and innovative ideas for learning; I coordinate/facilitate school events, and I even serve as a liaison between students, staff, and parents whenever needed. Prior to this, I also worked with a child who was visually impaired for three years. Ultimately, with the help of everyone, we were able to make her independent enough to the point where she no longer needed any assistance. It was beautiful
