I have been working with special needs since I was 18, starting one of my first jobs as a vocational specialist in an adult day program. Since then, I have been working as a respite care provider for both children and adults with disabilities. Recently, I have had the opportunity to work at a summer camp with children with special needs which was by far one of the best summers of my life. I love working with people who have disabilities because I love learning about them and all they can do. I feel like most of the population puts labels on these people, as if they are incapable of doing anything "normal." But the more I work with them, the more I realize that they can achieve so much more than we give them credit for. With the right direction, tools and motivation, there is very little that they can't do. I love being part of that process and as they learn, I learn so much about them and the world we live in. It is truly a blessing to see the world the way they see it.
