In the past, when I worked as an instructional aide at an elementary school, I worked with children with special needs ranging from high-functioning down syndrome to severe autism and low to very low functioning mental retardation. My duties included one on one personal attention, changing diapers, feeding, assisting walking and assisting in adaptive physical education. I would take them on walks and modify activities to their specific cognitive level. I enjoy this type of work.
