Math, science, and English have always been my favorite subjects. My sophomore through senior years in high school, I was a peer tutor and a member of both the math honor society and the national honor society. Through these programs, I tutored various other students in biology, physics, chemistry, geometry, pre-calculus, calculus, grammar, American literature, English literature, and writing. For a year during high school, I also worked for a math tutoring company, Mathnasium, where I taught all levels of math from basic addition and number sense all the way up to calculus. I spent another two years in high school working for Jefferson county schools as a program aid for their summer enrichment program. This is a program where 35-80 elementary age children come each day during the summer to learn, go on field trips, and be in a fun and entertaining environment while their parents are at work. Working for this program taught me how to deal with tough behavior and keep kids engaged.
