I have 9 years of classroom teaching under my belt and I am a certified elementary K-6, as well as special education teacher K-12. I am a gifted mathematician, and I have enjoyed teaching in classrooms with children of every age; pre- K all the way up to 12th grade. I have been tutoring for about 5 years. I love working with small children. One way that I stand out among competition in my profession, is my diverse experience. Even though the fund of my experience has been in mathematics, from first grade all the way up to 9th grade Algebra and 10th grade Geometry, and working with children who have special needs, particularly Autism and Asperger's. I have taught reading, grammar, writing, social studies, spelling, science, cursive writing, health, social skills, and the list is profound. I do not look at teaching as a profession, but instead it is who I am as a person. I am very caring, and bond very easily with children. This is because I will get to know your child, then I will use this information to either help them with their studies or derive lesson plans, after assessing the state curriculum. I know how to bond with children by showing I care and tapping into their interests. In addition, I am well versed in compiling lesson plans that not only meet your child's learning modality, but also incorporate manipulative, art, music, film, or drama. Therefore, I make lessons fun instead of a dreaded endeavor. Finally, through many websites, I have access to boatloads of practice sheets in any area where your child needs practice. I started out as an accountant when I graduated from Rutgers University in 1989, then two years later I started teaching religious education to third graders. Within the first 10 minutes of the first night, I knew this was what I was meant to do. I never imagined it was going to be such a moving and rewarding experience. So, I kept on teaching religious education and as soon as my husband and I had the money, I went back to school for a Master's in Education, and I never looked back. I love being in the classroom, but I am also thrilled to teach one on one with a student by being a tutor. Please contact me and you will be glad you did.

I hired Christina a few years back to help my fourth grader with math, and she was not only a great tutor but a blessing. She used different ways to teach my daughter her times tables and what I mean is, audio tapes, flash cards, multiplication poems, etc. In June when I hired her, my princess knew maybe 10% of her tables, but with Christina's perseverance and use of many modalities to get my child to learn, I would say she knew 80% by October. In addition, Christina did a little bit of LA with her, and even gave her a reading inventory at beginning of summer. This first test only put my daughter on the 3rd grade level for reading. However, Christina used a "bag of tricks" or skill set that helped my child not just read but actually comprehend what she was reading. By September, my daughter jumped up to a mid fourth grade level, even better than I thought she would be when given a post assessment reading inventory. I highly recommend Christina, she is an awesome tutor.
