I have been working with special needs children/teenagers/adults for many years now. I began as a Special Olympics volunteer and absolutely loved it. I loved to see how happy the kids/adults got when they won an award or finished a race because they did not think they could accomplish something and then they did- their joy brought me to tears many times. In high school, I worked in the autism classroom every day for 2 years and really got to interact with the kids on a personal level. I was able to develop relationships with the kids and they warmed my heart every single day with their drive to learn and positive attitudes. Also, for the past 6 summers, I volunteer at an extended school year for my county where elementary-aged kids continue their education 3 days a week from May-August. I am passionate about working with people with special needs because I believe they have huge hearts that are impossible not to love. They are always willing to have fun and have no judgments. Thanks!
