I started my journey working with Special needs at Southbury Training School working with individuals who had profound Special needs. I found this to be more rewarding than I ever imagined it could be. I took a break to care for and run my father's business. I then took a job working as a Job coach for a small agency where clients with various levels of special needs would report to me for work and I would bring them into to community to preform work duties to their ability. I also worked as a direct care worker in a group home setting performing duties such as bathing, feeding, medication distribution and recreational activities out in the community. I Supervised a group home housing 5 individuals who were very medically involved and some highly behavioral. I would have to oversee about 15-20 staff. I was a working manager. I would work directly with the individuals I served. I was med certified with the state, CPR & First aid certified as well as OSHA trained.
