I love children.
I have 3 boys (19, 18 and 16). My 16-year-old died in 2017, he was very disabled and died of natural causes.
I met my son with special needs in 2010, when he was 9. At the time his physical and mental abilities were equivalent to a 9-month-old. Nonverbal, non mobile, feeding tube a lot of disabilities. I saw more in him and within 6 months he could stand and walk a little bit. In a year he could walk exclusively on his own. Although his developmental doctor identified with an age equivalent of 3 or 4, I saw more. When he was 15 I discovered he could read.
I miss working with children and helping them through life's journey.
I believe reading help children through all aspects of educational growth and life.
Through my son's challenges, I enrolled in University and became a Special needs advocate to help him receive the appropriate education. I retired from the Air Force after 22 years to care for my boys after my husbands death in 2014.
