I have had much experience growing up with and being around people of all ages with special needs. My grandma and aunt took care of me growing up and my aunt was mentally handicapped. I thought that was normal and always have been completely comfortable around anyone with any sort of disability. It was fun teaching her new things and really spawned a passion for teaching others anything I could. That soon directly sparked a passion for working with those with special needs because I have a great gift of patience, a passion for teaching, and I believe a one of a kind sense of communication. I have been a long term nanny for those with special needs for multiple years (with excellent references) with children and even adults who couldn't even verbally communicate with me. We still had a very colorful relationship through other means of communication.
