I have been working with children who have special needs since high school. I used to volunteer at a therapeutic horseback riding agency twice a week in high school. I formed connections with families from the farm and continued to provide child care in the families homes, one I'm which I continue to provide care for. Throughout high school, college, graduate school, and into my first year as a social worker, I worked part time as a respite worker and then an autism technician. I worked with two middle school students. During these jobs, I helped my clients with Asperger, severe autism, and mental Illness develop social skills and life skills. Additionally, I have experience working with a child with Prader Willi Syndrome and a seizure disorder. I am comfortable with diapering and assistance with toileting and bathing. I can transfer clients and assist them on ambulatory needs and feeding. I also have experience administering medication.
