I have always had a special place in my heart for those with special needs. I have spent the last 3 years being an aide for a severely disabled girl with several disabilities and have enjoyed every second of it! My duties included g-tube feeding, medication distribution, diaper changes, daily hygiene, seizure attendance, repositioning, transferring, doctor appointments and much more. I am not one to just merely check off a list of things to do each day, but really engage the person in my care and try to go above and beyond. I have taken 20+ hours of special education courses, so I do have some "book knowledge", but certainly find that real life experience is best. I want to be the next best thing to a family member, like a family member, a bonding relationship. This is my passion. I have also volunteered with Special Olympics and in the special needs class at a church with children with all different special needs. I would love to be the perfect fit for your family! Brooke took care of my precious 90 year old father for just under 6 months, until he passed away. Brooke was sweet, yet able to firmly redirect during moments of confusion. She was sensitive to my father's likes & dislikes, played his kind of music for him, cooked meals that he preferred, and overall protected him, as his family would. She was quite intuitive to subtle changes happening with him, and communicated those changes quickly & effectively. Brooke was comfortable transporting him to doctor's appointments, whether with his walker, or w/c, and she was an excellent set of eyes & ears during those appointments. She also challenged him to do what he could, on his own, and encouraged ongoing physical therapy when appropriate. Brooke has become an important & trusted part of our family; we love her!
