I am an artist and direct care worker living in Swannanoa, NC. I am pursuing my Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Expressive Arts Therapy through a low-residency program at Goddard College. Since December 8, 2014, I have worked as a direct support professional at WNC Group Homes for Autistic Persons in Ashe ville, NC. I provide direct care responsibilities for youth and adults with developmental disabilities, including help with personal hygiene, providing emotional support, and facilitating the development of life skills. I am highly passionate about teaching individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to have the best life they can achieve. I strongly believe in the empowerment of art as a tool for healing and creative learning, and strive to integrate the arts into my practice as a direct caregiver.

Brit and I work together in a home for individuals with autism. She is a very talented artist and caregiver. She is able to apply her artistic talents to the teaching of the residents, which is truly wonderful to watch. She seems to uphold their quality of life as a normal standard in the way she interacts with the residents. Her patience is definitely admirable! I would highly recommend hiring her as an employee.
