Caring for children has been a lifelong passion for me as the daughter of an early childhood educator. I began teaching horseback riding lessons to children ages 5 - 12 when I was 13, which sparked my own interest in early childhood education. Since graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and Integrative Physiology, I have pursued education and experience with children of special needs. Through my experiences as a Registered Riding Instructor., I have gleaned immense experience, knowledge and affection for children with various physical, cognitive and behavioral disabilities. When not instructing, I have spent many hours observing and participating in sessions, in which PT's and OT's use equine movement to enhance and facilitate physical, mental and emotional therapy. These experiences fueled my desire to become a professional nanny while pursuing a Master's degree in occupational therapy with a focus in pediatrics. My ultimate goal is to practice as an OT. Over the last year in particular, I have had the privilege of being a nanny for 4 wonderful families with able bodied boys ages 3 - 8, and one 4-year-old able bodied girl with speech delays. My duties have included preparing meals, laundry, light housework, pet care, carpooling, grocery shopping, and organizing summer care. I also have experience administering medication, including injections. My former employers include the CEO of a Seattle technology company and an investment adviser; so I understand and am sensitive to the demands of the corporate world on working parents and their families. I am even more sensitive to the physical, financial and emotional demands on parents and families of children with disabilities and developmental delays. I am a Colorado native and am very passionate about the outdoors and exploring the world around us. I encourage independence, respect, education, and social and environmental awareness in all children I care for. I myself grew up without a TV, so I am a huge proponent of reading and playing age-appropriate learning games for entertainment rather than camping out in front of the TV. I am a firm believer that a nanny's role extends far beyond childcare. I believe a nanny should act as an extension of the family, and support the family as a unit by upholding the philosophies and methods established by the parents.
