I received my BA in English and I hold an MFA in Writing. I've also worked extensively in YMCA youth programs and camps as counselor and director.
During grad school, I worked in the Writing Center. As Senior Writing Fellow, I tutored undergraduate and graduate students in every form of written assignment you can fathom -- from book reports to dissertations.
I developed a background in both critical and pedagogical theory (i. e. learning to read critically, to analyze, to write my own conclusions, and then learning how to teach it all). As a writing tutor, I find balance between teacher and guide: educating clients about the parameters of their objective while allowing them the space for self-expression.
I've come to find that after enough time, writing tutoring becomes writing therapy. Self-expression, after all, is evidence of self-discovery. My goal is to inspire my clients to conceive, organize, discuss, and express complex ideas the same way that I was inspired.
