What makes someone a doula? Some would say that it is the training that makes a doula, but I believe that it is the heart that makes a doula.
Over the years I have taken various trainings, and achieved different certifications. I love to learn new things, and new ways to support families in pregnancy, birth and parenting. My first certification as birth and postpartum doula was with an organization that is no longer around. In 2004 I was certified with DONA as a birth doula. In 2013 I certified with Madriella as a birth doula, and achieved my Rebozo certification. I am currently working toward my Still Birth Day doula certification. I have listed some of the classes that I have taken over the years below.
It is my servant's heart that has led me to volunteer with various programs such as Operation Special Delivery, hospital doula programs, and Trust Birth. I worked with social services as a doula that worked with teen moms.
It has been a natural progression to grow into parenting education and support. In 2008 I received my accreditation as a Power of Positive Parenting (Triple P) Educator. Triple P is an evidenced based parenting program for families from pregnancy to 10 years of age.
I have supported families, who have birthed at home, in the hospital, or birthing centers, families that have transferred from home to hospital or families that chose C-section. It is a privilege when I am asked to be someone's doula. It is not my birth, it is yours! I support you in your choices. Because each family is unique the services I provide for each family is based on what they need. I am nonjudgmental, and support families of all faiths, and lifestyles.
The first time I meet with a client is for the free interview. If you chose me to be your birth doula we will schedule 2 prenatal visits. During these visits we will do some hands on practice for birth, as well as go over birth options, and help give you the information so that you can build your birth plan. I will then attend your birth. After the birth I will do a postpartum visit about a week after the baby is born.
If you chose me for your postpartum doula we will meet once before the birth to plan your postpartum services. Then I will come in as scheduled to help where needed.
My doula practice is slightly different than others because I offer the Positive Parenting resource to my clients. I also offer packages and discounts when you sign for more than one service.
