I believe the key to working with people with autism is honesty and an attempt to understand their experience. My relationship with my brother, autistic and semi-verbal, has followed this path, and he is my best friend because of it. I am a practitioner of the Alexander Technique, a method in sensory-motor integration. The more science comes to understand autism the more it becomes clear that the core of the issues are sensory-motor related. Behavior and social difficulties come out of that. When we understand better what the child with autism is experiencing it becomes easier to relate to them and assist them in being their best. I am also looking for part-time work with families who are interested in helping their children grow. I provide Alexander Technique sessions, but also social skills and mentorship. As I build my Alexander Technique practice my goal is to integrate it with the work I do with people with autism.
