I have worked as a caregiver for an agency that provided non-medical care and companionship to seniors. I visited with a variety of different clients providing services including meal preparation, cleaning, errand running and general companionship. My most recent caregiving experience was working for a family as a companion for their elderly mother. I visited her 2 days out of the week to take her to her appointments, to the grocery store, out shopping, or anywhere she wanted to go. I was her friend and companion and with my help, she was able to maintain her independence and remain at home. I enjoy being a caregiver because I can genuinely see and feel the positive effect that my services have on people. Allowing someone to maintain their independence while providing companionship is incredibly rewarding. Not only am I able to give to the people I care for, but I am given just as much in return.
