My name is Alex, I'm 21 years old and I have been working with children and teens with disabilities my whole life. It all started with my little brother who had autism. He was my best friend. He passed away in his sleep a little over 4 years ago when he was 13 years old. Other than my brother, I have been a childcare provider to five different families, all with children who have Down syndrome. Also, my childhood best friend has down syndrome. I have been tutoring and working out with her for as long as I can remember. They are my sole inspirations for wanting to pursue my career in special education. Since I was in 8th grade I have been volunteering for a Young Life organization called Capernaum. It is a youth group for kids with disabilities. Also, I do have my own vehicle. I love to cook and clean and I always have energy. I play volleyball for Humboldt State University so my schedule will get a little tight as the season approaches in the fall.
