Seeking Full-time Senior Care Provider In Honesdale

Full Time
About who needs care: My mother has Multiple Sclerosis. She has lost the ability to walk and is a considerable fall risk. We are looking for 1-2 people with experience dealing with the elderly and with dementia type mental issues -Assist with her ADLs -Assist with some basic household upkeep -Will take her to some appointments -Is willing to learn how to run an intermittent catheter for urine retention issues 1-2x/day -keep her working on & guide her through doing PT exercises each day Additionally, the person(s) we hire MUST be able to: - deal with someone who is often bitter and can be nasty (though not physically). While we love her, we realize this is an issue that not everyone can handle. You MUST have thick skin and be willing and able to let these things go and not take them personally. - is able to kindly, but firmly assist her and will listen to family as to what needs to be done and can use their better judgement where her resistance to certain things is concerned and be a partner with us in her care. - can be around a smoker as she does smoke sometimes - is willing to get used to the large dog in the house (and let him get to know them) this will take several visits. He is not vicious, but is very protective of my mother and can be intimidating until he gets to know you and accepts you as being "ok." He has never bitten anyone, but if you are afraid of dogs, this isn't the job for you. My mother enjoys crafting and painting - her eyesight and dexterity are not what they used to be, but she would enjoy spending time with someone who is willing to help her or participate in these types of things. I will edit this as I think of anything else that may be helpful. About the care needs: The right person will be a "no BS" kind of person where care is concerned and someone who isn't easily offended or upset by angry words. Is willing to communicate with family about my mom's well-being and can keep a very distract-able person on track. My mom used to be a nurse, so she has a strong personality and is not always "easy" on people caring for her. You will need to be dependable. Though we can be very flexible for the right person. She will only accept a female caring for her. So, that's a requirement. You should be interested in caring for people, not just going through the motions. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, medication prompting, mobility assistance, and help staying physically active. Preference for a caregiver who is female.
