Full Time
About who needs care: He's almost totally deaf, so requires a lot of patience, but he can read lips somewhat, and it helps to use gestures when speaking to him. He sits at his computer most of the day each day, and takes naps. He's mostly healthy, and has a good appetite, but his frame is breaking down, and he needs help dressing (the lower half of his body), bathing, standing and transferring, and toileting. Since my mom is also not in great shape, it would be helpful if the home aide/companion could also do light housework (clean the cat litter box, sweep the kitchen, wipe down kitchen counters, vacuum occasionally). I'll know more about other needs once my dad comes home from rehab next week.
About the care needs: PATIENT, kind, reliable, honest, flexible, friendly, generally quiet but with a good sense of humor. Not easily shocked. If the aide enjoys books and TV, that would be great, since my mom often feels lonely, given my dad's progressive deafness. My dad likes likes books. He sometimes watches sports. My mom prefers TV and movies. The kitchen is HERS, and she's very particular about where things are and who uses what, so it will likely take time for someone new to figure out a comfortable fit for themselves in the house dynamics.
Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
