My name is Karla and I'm a native English speaker. I am from the United States and moved to the Netherlands 2.5 years ago. I am now a student at Leiden University getting my Master's in History. I have a certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL). I have over 10 years experience as a babysitter and nanny and in some of those jobs I was also responsible for tutoring and helping with homework. In the Netherlands I took care of two young girls and spoke English with them and encouraged them to speak English. It was not formally teaching them English but instead teaching them through play which is the best way to teach a language to young children. I have taken several Dutch classes so I know the difficulties of learning a new language and would be patient with whoever I am teaching. I can now speak reasonable Dutch and understand it well.
