Throughout high school, I was very active in volunteering. Almost all of my free time was spent working with children. I began working as a group leader for a YMCA program. Children from the ages of 5 - 11 would spend the night at the YMCA indulging in activities like gym games, swimming, and a special event that changed monthly. I was in charge of 5 - 10 kids in a specific age groups and would lead them through the activities and help problem solve if anything arose. The next year, I worked as a unit leader and would help group leaders watch over the 25 - 50 kids in a single unit. I interacted with kids to see how they were doing and encourage participation. The next two years, I was a coordinator for my YMCA and ran the program from scheduling, to activity planning, to planning meals. I worked with kids having a difficult time and assisted my fellow volunteers when needed.
While I wasn't volunteer at a program, I volunteered at a YMCA camp. During the school year, I ran program areas like archery, boating, and arts and crafts and led campfire. During summer, I was a camp counselor for kids 7 - 10 years old. I would help lead their day to fun.
I've also recently been working one on one with an autistic child and developing my knowledge in this area.
