I lost my dad 4 years ago to brain cancer. It was awful to see him go from being a very independent man to being a man who needed help with everything. I took him into our home and with the help of my husband, family and mom , I cared for him through his illness. After he passed, my mom found herself very lost and once again I found myself caring for another person that used to take care of me. My mom got a brain hemorrhage almost 2 years after my dad passed and I kept her home with us also and cared for her until it was her time to join my dad. I was also very close with my Grandmother when I was younger. I have great memories of spending the day with her cleaning, playing cards, making lunch, and telling stories. I also stayed with her to care for her after she had to have surgery.
I have a very special place in my heart for seniors. After being a nanny for many years,
and now having grandchildren.. I feel a pull to change my career path to working with the elderly.
