About who needs care: My wife has early onset Alzheimer's. She needs assistance with toileting, showering, eating, dressing etc. She is in the later stages and while still mobile requires care to help avoid falls. This role would primarily be for 1-2 weekend days a week for 4-5 hrs, and 1-2 evening/overnights to enable me to get some rest. About the care needs: Caregivers ideally will be experienced with dementia care. Including the various challenges around mood changes and the high-level of hands on help people in the later stages of this disease need. Also the ability to help move her physically (e. g. getting in and out of bed) will be key. The ideal caregiver is positive and outgoing, but can read the person being cared for so they know when to not over-manage them. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
