About who needs care: My mother-in-law, Betty, has always been a strong, Christian woman. Her husband passed away at 45 years of age, leaving her to raise 2 sons. She taught herself to drive, and to make ends meet, had to open her home to the elderly to care for them. After that, she sought employment at SUNY Cobleskill in the catering division, where she learned not only the diverse personalities of college students, but how to make and decorate cakes. She did that as a sideline as well for decades. Retirement didn't come easy for Betty, and she devoted more time on Sundays at church, being the superintendent of Sunday school for many students, for many years. Fast-forward to now, her son, my husband, Jeffery, and I, along with her sister, Susan (she and Betty are 2 of 12) have been caring for her. She did have to go to Palatine Nursing Center about 4 years ago for rehab because of cellulitis, yet did quite well on her own after skilled nursing care. Now is a different situation. She was forgetting to take meds, even with us leaving the sorter in view, with notes! * that she would hide*. Then her personal hygiene, which she was always so proud of, diminished. Incontinence set in, and we knew there was a problem. After her 3 falls, we took the initiative (with her doctors approval) to get her admitted to the hospital. She had a raging UTI, anemia, and low potassium, yet that is getting better. Betty is supposed to have OT/PT twice a day, because her mobility is at a snails pace, and her doctor said as long as she complies, we can discuss her going home. Well, she did do a bit for 2 days, then refused because she didnt feel like it. During our visit yesterday, the nurse said she isnt improving much, so here we are. We still have to meet with the other family members, but need options. Thank-you About the care needs: Betty loves birds, the Bible, and grew up on a farm Services needed include: feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
