About who needs care: My husband is 79, he is generally fairly well but has Parkinson's disease, with some mobility limitations as well as some cognitive decline and mild dementia. About the care needs: I am looking for an upbeat, tactful, and can-do person who can adapt to whatever makes sense or needs doing - fixing lunch, troubleshooting frustration with the TV remote or email confusion, making conversation (and knowing when not to), encouraging and coaching PT exercises, encouraging hobbies (sketching and reading), and accompanying my husband on short walks in the dog park or even perhaps longer outings to a museum in DC. Ideally, the person will be friendly but also be able to find things to do if my husband doesn't feel like socializing and prefers quiet, or to nap or to watch TV. I would love to find a person who, if my husband doesn't need any attention, would make themselves useful around the house doing light chores - loading / unloading the dishwasher, tidying, folding laundry etc. Someone with common sense and good values. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
