About who needs care: Mom has Alzheimer's but is mobile and able to function and converse pretty normally. She needs help making sure she takes her medication and eats properly (she'll forget or take meds twice), interacting with her (keep her mind active - converse, watch TV together, etc), and making sure she doesn't overexert herself or do things like climb up on a step ladder. She likes to spy on the neighbors, clean, and take care of us and the dog. We try to limit her activities that she can do safely while making sure she feels useful and a valuable contributor to our household. She lives with us part time, so we would need help for a few weeks at a time and then there would be a break. We are both teachers, so we would need someone from around 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mon-Fri on school days. About the care needs: Mom would be more comfortable with a woman, but she really doesn't want anyone to come in. She currently doesn't need help bathing, bathrooming, or dressing, but it may help her adjust to having someone here if they are able to help her with chores she can no longer safely do but wants done (she'll forget always wants to dust things that are high up, for example). Cleaning makes her feel helpful - has all her life. She has great life stories that explain why. :-) Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, and companionship.
