About who needs care: We are looking for a care giver to work a full-time schedule assisting a senior man who is recovering from a stroke which caused paralysis to half his body and damage to his speech center. He is very good natured, highly educated, and was an athlete and dancer before the stroke. He is very committed to his recovery and is making slow, but steady progress, and becoming more independent every day. Work hours and days are flexible, but should be on a consistent schedule. Hours will include some evenings and weekends. He is living in Arcata in a house with a very nice attached 1 bedroom apartment with a private yard. Our first choice is to find a caregiver who would like to live in the apartment and go next door during work hours. Pay is negotiable and will be based on experience, hours available, and use of apartment. About the care needs: Required Tasks: vegetarian meal preparation assist with bathing and dressing assist with transfers between bed, wheelchair, toilet, furniture transport to appointments, shopping, and outings practice therapy programs as directed by physical therapist, occupational therapist, and speech therapist organize medications into medications box schedule other caregivers and keep accurate, online calendar of caregivers and appointments keep accurate records of hours and activities, invoice for work every 2 weeks basic technology skills with phone, tablet, laptop offer companionship and help find recreational activities Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, bathing / dressing, and mobility assistance.
