About who needs care: Mm has a bad back and is often in a lot of pain. Shes Our mother is in pain from her back a lot of the time. It exhausts her. She uses a walker. Otherwise pretty healthy considering. She doesn't really have any hobbies anymore : she watches a lot of TV. She can do light housework. Shes a regular church goer. The problem with mom is her memory so my dad cant/wont leave her home alone . This is what prompted us to discuss care. Dad was recently in the hospital and he had mom staying in the room with him for days because he was afraid of her being alone. They are in a senior living apartment and my sister and I see no reason to take away their independence (nor would they want to). My sister and I both live out of town or we could easily take care of these things. But if they had someone they could count on to come in once a week or so to help out but who would also be available for situations such as my Dads hospitalization Also, its important to note my dad is pretty active for an 87-year-old, but he has a chronic cancer and minor heart troubles . They really do well on their own but my sister and I feel we need to present them with an options About the care needs: There are two personalities at work here: my mom is very shy, and will be embarrassed and apologetic. The house is not kept to their usual standard but shes very resistant to accept help. My dad on the other hand is very gregarious. Hes a talker! He helps my mom out a lot . But he also counts on her to take care of the every day habits for him. Services needed include: transportation, meal preparation, errands / shopping, and light housekeeping.
