We're seeking respite care for my wife, who has late-stage Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and is paralyzed from the neck down. Care involves assisting with feeding as needed, changing briefs, and emptying her Foley catheter bag when required. She mainly needs companionship, help staying help maintaining comfort (repositioning legs/arms as needed), and providing medication when required. Care is typically needed 2-4 hours at a time during the week so I can attend appointments or run errands. Ideal caregivers are patient, dependable, and comfortable providing total care. Experience with ALS or similar conditions is helpful but not required -- compassion and reliability matter most.
