This will be used as your unique ID with both state and federal tax authorities. Then you can open an account with your state taxing authority.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"workers-compensation\"><strong>Workers&rsquo; compensation<\/strong><\/h3><p>Household employers in Nevada are not required to carry a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.care.com\/hp\/nanny-workers-compensation-insurance\">workers&rsquo; compensation insurance<\/a> policy, however we recommend obtaining coverage. These policies pay for medical expenses and lost wages if an employee has a work-related injury or illness. Obtain an instant quote and <a href=\"https:\/\/homepaywc.com\/\">purchase a policy online<\/a>, or contact our partner, Clarke White, at 804-267-1210 or <a href=\"mailto:wcnanny@allrisks.com\">wcnanny@allrisks.com<\/a>.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"employment-contract\"><strong>Employment contract&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3><p>At the time of hire, household employers in Nevada are required to provide their employee with a written employment contract that must include:<\/p><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Employer&rsquo;s name and address.<\/li><li>Employee&rsquo;s name and start date.<\/li><li>A list of duties the employee is expected to perform.<\/li><li>Weekly schedule of days and hours worked, along with any breaks given during the day.<\/li><li>Hourly rate of pay, overtime rate of pay and any benefits offered to the employee (health insurance, paid time off, etc.).<\/li><li>Pay frequency (weekly\/bi-weekly) and method of pay.<\/li><li>Any deductions from the employee&rsquo;s wages.<\/li><li>Period of notice for either employer or employee to terminate the working relationship.<\/li><li>If the employee is a live-in, the conditions for when the employer can enter the employee&rsquo;s room\/living space.<\/li><\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"employment-posters\"><strong>Employment posters<\/strong><\/h3><p>Families in Nevada are required to notify their employee of their rights by sharing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myhomepay.com\/FileHandler.ashx?FID=7243453F886841EB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">these posters<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-during-employment-nbsp-0\"><strong>During employment&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"file\">File returns, remit taxes and manage correspondence<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>File state employment tax returns throughout the year and remit state employer and employee taxes.<\/li><li>Remit federal employer and employee taxes via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/pub\/irs-pdf\/f1040es.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">1040-ES<\/a> estimated tax payment voucher four times each year.<\/li><li>Each year end, prepare Schedule H and file with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/forms-pubs\/about-form-1040\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Form 1040<\/a>; prepare and distribute <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/forms-pubs\/about-form-w-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Form W-2<\/a> to each employee; file Form W-2 Copy A\/<a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/forms-pubs\/about-form-w-3\">Form W-3<\/a> with the Social Security Administration (SSA).<\/li><li>Manage ongoing alerts and notices from the state (tax rates and labor law is subject to change at any time).<\/li><\/ul><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"minimum-wage\">Minimum wage rate<\/h3><p>The current minimum wage in Nevada is $12.00\/hour.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"nevada-overtime\">Nevada overtime requirements<\/h3><ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Live-out employees must be paid 1.5x their hourly rate for all hours worked over 40 in a workweek.<\/li><li>Live-in employees are required to be paid overtime, unless otherwise agreed to in writing by both employer and employee.<\/li><li>Overtime is not required to be paid when work is performed on a holiday.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Employees are required to have a day of rest (24 consecutive hours) each week and 48 consecutive hours of rest each month. If an employee chooses to work on their day of rest, all hours worked must be paid at their overtime rate.<\/li><\/ul><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-optional-benefits-for-your-employee-nbsp\"><strong>Optional benefits for your employee&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"health-insurance\">Health insurance<\/h3><p>Families with only 1 employee can make contributions toward their employee&rsquo;s health insurance premiums and treat the amount as non-taxable compensation. In this scenario, neither the employee nor the employer are required to pay any taxes on that portion of the compensation.<\/p><p>Families with 2 or more employees have 3 options:<\/p><ol class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Set up an Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement (ICHRA).<\/li><li>Set up a Qualified Small Employer Health Reimbursement Arrangement (QSEHRA).<\/li><li>Purchase a policy through SHOP (Small Business Health Options Program).&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol><p>Visit our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.care.com\/hp\/nanny-health-insurance\">health insurance page<\/a> for more information about these options.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"mileage-rate\">Mileage reimbursements<\/h3><p>The current federal mileage reimbursement rate for business use can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/www.irs.gov\/tax-professionals\/standard-mileage-rates\">here<\/a> and <em>only <\/em>covers miles driven by your employee while on the job. Miles driven commuting are not eligible for reimbursement.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-ending-employment-nbsp\"><strong>Ending employment&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"live-in\"><strong>Live-in termination requirement<\/strong><\/h3><p>If a household employer lets their live-in employee go without cause, they must either provide 30 days written notice for the employee to leave their home or provide comparable housing to them elsewhere.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"unused-pto\"><strong>Managing unused PTO&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3><p>Nevada household employers do not need to pay their employees for unused sick or vacation time.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"close-tax-accounts\">Close down your state employment tax account(s)<\/h3><p>The state tax agencies expect you to file timely returns for as long as your tax accounts are open &mdash; even to report $0 in wages paid.<\/p><h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"maintain-payroll-records\"><strong>Maintain payroll records<\/strong><\/h3><p>Household employers are required to keep wage records on file for at least three years.<\/p><div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div><p><em>* HomePay can assist with a wide range of&nbsp;the above-listed&nbsp;household tax and payroll needs; however, some state-specific requirements may not be fully supported.
