About who needs care: Mama Deb had a stroke that left the right side of her body paralyzed in June of 2017. She suffers from aphasia, but is able to speak one word at a time and in very short sentences. She has bowel and urination control, but needs help to get to and from the restroom. She can stand, with help, to transition from wheelchair to chair, wheelchair to bed, wheelchair to car, etc. She can feed herself, but needs someone to prepare food for her. A typical day for Mama Deb starts around 11:30 a.m. and she goes to bed around 11 p.m. She loves listening to music, watching TV, and doing puzzles!
About the care needs: Mama Deb is very social and outgoing and would love someone who enjoys music and TV and celebrity gossip and puzzles, just like her! She also loves time with her family, so she would appreciate a caregiver who enjoys company! Mama Deb's husband, who has been her full-time caregiver since her stroke, is currently fighting lung cancer and can no longer take care of her every need on his own. Eventually, a palliative care nurse and then a hospice nurse will also be in the home to tend to his needs. Anyone with speech therapy experience or PT experience would be beneficial for Mama Deb.
