Experienced In-Home Care Provider
I've worked in the health care field since I was 18, I'm now 29. I started out working at a behavior focused group home as a consumer adviser. Each one of the clients suffered from ADD and ADHD. I ran many behavior programs and also transported to many different behavior analyses. I work there for four years. I then moved on to doing companion services with an older lady that suffered from epilepsy. It was my first experience and I was very skeptical about it at first but became very fond on this lady. She would normally have seizures at least 3-4 time a day. I would have to time the seizures, if she didn't wear her helmet I would place a pillow under her head. I was only there for about a year due to her passing away because of the illness. My next experience was a young lady that was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth. This young woman really touched my heart and soul because she was unable to walk or talk. I worked with her for four years as well, 6 days a week, 9 hours a day, except Saturdays I only worked 6, off on Sundays. I bathed her, I fed her, I groomed her, I dressed her, I did everything for her. I never thought that I would become so attached or even experience changing diapers for a teenager, but I loved her very much and really enjoyed my job everyday.
