Seeking care for my mother in her 80s. No prior experience required. Female caregiver preferred. A little more about my mother: she can be pleasant, grouchy, reserved, independent. She is very proud and wants to be independent- but is not able to manage on her own. She is intelligent, but has some very mild dementia and can be a little moody at times- probably due to the frustration of not having the cognitive capacity she once had. She had a stroke last year and as a result has some difficulty forming her words. She gets frustrated when she wants to verbally respond and the words can't get out fast enough. Her walking is very slow, she uses a walker and tends to drag the right foot and has to be reminded to lift it. She enjoys going outdoors and loves the park- she uses a wheel chair when outside the house. Someone has to push the wheelchair. I'm looking for someone who is patient, outdoorsy. Talkative-but not too chatty. Enjoys watching political shows, nature and documentaries.
Allows mom to help herself as much as possible. Mom requires continuous supervision- she requires assistance with toileting and bathing- but will assist as much as possible- with putting on and taking off clothes, etc. she likes getting out of the house- and enjoys stories if you have a good one to share. She has always called the shots- so allowing her to be a part of making the choices that affect her is probably key...,. Shall we go this way today? What about this pair of shoes? I'd we watch CNN or look at the nature channel?
