This class is for children who hear Spanish almost daily, and understand at least 50%. These children have either been at an immersion school for 2+ years or hear Spanish spoken in the home since birth/or when they travel to another country for an extended period of time.

Every 4 weeks, we change themes and curriculum, so we talk about a different aspect of conversation every month. This allows children to get confident speaking on themes, just like in real life. You did not speak to your child in 'level 1 English' for 2 years, so we do not do that either. We talk about a theme, and develop conversation about it.

Conversation level will be adjusted depending on the level of each student or the group as a whole. We always meet each child at the level they are at, rephrasing questions based on the level of the child - so questions might be different from child to child, and answers might be different based on Spanish exposure of the child. Rest easy - we meet your child exactly where they are so that the environment is fun and relaxed.

In every TruFluency Kids class, we have 2-3 themes that we touch on. During the discussion of these themes, we will focus on being able to express ourselves in Spanish in regards to this theme. We will always encourage speaking, while also increasing listening comprehension. Activities in class include, but not limited to: learning songs that have a grammar focus (but the kids don't know that, they just sing!), drawing, writing, guessing games with points, computer games that you’ll get access to, word games, song games (singing, dancing, movement activities), or even Get Up And Go game to learn commands and move around for 5 minutes each class. Also, lots of questions to get them speaking Spanish. We use The Bellieu Method for fluency, which upholds speaking, relevant material, interesting topics and letting the student be the focus of the class for ultimate engagement.

Week 1 : We will go over new vocabulary (3-6 words at a time) and play an online, dynamic, computer game or song to solidify their usage - you’ll also get free access to this game or song at home. We will apply these words to a colorful video with a song that uses those same words. We will apply choreography to help us remember those words as well. We will give you the link to the video and the link to a game or challenge or worksheet so that you can work on it during your free time.

Week 2 : We will learn 3- 6 more words and complete phrases from the song and learn them more thoroughly through number games, guessing games, hangman, drawing games and various other activities. We will continue to learn the new lyrics to the song and apply those words in short conversations with assistance from the native speaking teacher. We will send home a FUN worksheet that you can put on your fridge to help you remember to use the new words in everyday conversations.

Week 3 : We will finalize the knowledge of applying the choreography or hand movements to the song and learn the final 10 words. We will give them quizzes (via games!) to ensure words are learned. We will continue to practice the short conversations with assistance from the teacher. Small competitions to engage and encourage will be held as well. Get access to a Spanish craft or worksheet on our website that you can do in the evening or on the weekends.

Week 4 : We will do a short story game based on the original song and video. We will continue to practice the conversations and get more confident with those. We will give you access to the short story as well so that you may read at home. Work on an extra worksheet at home with your kiddos to help tie in the information learned.

Kids will leave knowing a new song (which you have access to) with 20+ Spanish high frequency words like because, no one, where, who, when, what, and more. With practice, they can apply these to everyday. Every month we will build fluency, confidence speaking, and their ability to understand the spoken language like a native speaker.

In order to be effective in our Bellieu Method, please do not sit with your child in class and translate to the class, or push your child to respond. The method does not work this way. They will respond when they are ready. Those who listen, typically, are those who speak a lot later on, because they were figuring things out by listening for many months. So trust the process please, as every child speaks at a different speed.
