Our 13-year-old daughter has a genetic translocation resulting in many mental and physical handicaps. She is about 1 yr old mentally but weighs 75 lbs, is non-verbal and in a wheelchair. Because she needs to be lifted, we've had the most success with recent HS graduates or college age helpers (18-26 yrs). Duties include playing with and keeping an eye on her & diaper changes when needed. She spends a lot of time shaking her toys and playing by herself so sometimes the job is merely companionship. She enjoys going on walks around the neighborhood, playing on the trampoline, etc. She loves attention and enjoys interaction. No special training needed, just a little patience and love.
Hours may vary depending on events with our other 4 kids, including occasional evening help so we can attend our son's football games, etc.
