A passion for making positive changes in the lives of individuals with additional needs.

Camp Allen, is a unique summer camp based in New Hampshire which accommodates the needs of individuals regardless of their age or ability. I was given the opportunity to spend time with some truly remarkable people and learn more about a number of disabilities. As a result, I now have experience of working with individuals with autism, prader-willi syndrome, down syndrome, intellectual disabilities, multiple sclerosis, seizure disorders, swallowing disorders, and various physical disabilities.
My role as Camp Counsellor consisted of tailoring activities to meet each camper’s unique needs and tastes, this often brought with it challenges and developed my ability to solve problems in a creative manner. I also continually encouraged campers to try new activities and required me to stay positive when trailing new approaches or techniques in order to explore the complex dimensions of each individual’s personality. The majority of the time I worked on a one-to-one basis with campers, with the exception of the sessions in which I was assigned the role of cabin leader. In this position, I was accountable for the oversight and management of both campers and staff within the cabin.
