I have worked as a teaching assistant, EMAG assistant, set up and invigilated exams, been part of the WRL team which included setting up and monitoring Work Experience placements for Year 10 and Year 11 students and supported international trips. I have been the ‘Quiet Room’ Coordinator. This position involves offering students who are experiencing difficulties within the classroom a structured place where they can come to calm down or feel ready to continue their learning in a more appropriate manner. The time offered depends on the student’s need at any particular time. Students who are on an internal exclusion will also come to the Quiet Room. This can be at any time up to a week. As I have the higher level teaching assistant qualification, it allows me to run this room with the support of another TA (no teacher). I am now employed as an HLTA where I cover classes for Teachers who for different reasons cannot be in class. I teach lesson such as skills classes for year 11 students who need extra support with basic skills in everyday activities,( this entails taking students off-site to support with learning everyday skills), PSCE in year 7. I'm at present a form tutor to a class of 12/13-year-old boys.
