During my 5 years experience working with the elderly, l have met elderly people with different needs. Some who need a lot of attention and others who just need companionship. I have cared for the elderly with dementia sickness, which is more challenging because the patient becomes frustrated at times and this can lead some of them to be violent. In all situations, l have offered the care needed according to the needs of the person and this has made me gain a lot of patience, become a good listener, good companion and, above all, a good carer. I am passionate about what l do because l want to help the people l care for to live a normal life as much as possible, allowing them to do what they can do and helping them to do what they cannot do without compromising their privacy. For example, l allow them to choose clothes to wear and meals on the menu among the few.
