Dear lovely host family!
First I would like to welcome you to my profile and thank you for taking
the time to read my letter! Let me start with introducing myself:
My name is Kerstin (nickname Kadie), spirited 28 years young and I grew up in a small town in lower Bavaria, south Germany. After living with my family for 20 years, I moved to Munich. While doing a successfully completed job training as a government secretary, I started babysitting more intensively to prepare myself for my au pair year in the US. In June 2014, I terminated my adventurous year in the US which was followed by four months of work and travel, backpacking through whole New Zealand. After that, I've been a summer au pair in Edinburgh where I had a great time!
My family consists of my parents, my younger brother, two dogs, two cats, two rabbits and two guinea pigs. My mom is also working with children in an after school centre.
In my free time I love to learn about the world we live in, hanging around with children, meeting friends, singing, dancing, horseback-riding, going to the zoo or museums, cooking, reading, writing and a lot more!
Now I want to come to the most important part of my letter: my
experiences with children.
I have always loved to be surrounded by children. It amazes me on what
things they take care, as they discover the world through their eyes
and are constantly learning new things. It never gets boring being
around children! When I was about 10 years old, I started taking care
of my younger brother (6 yrs at that time) while my parents were occasionally out with friends or visiting relatives. I cooked for us, played with him and
put him to bed. He loved to play with legos and dominos, for example.
Being an au pair in the US and in the UK has taught me a lot. I was working with children from one to seven years and enjoyed it very much! I especially gained experience in organising activities, creating play dates, driving the children around, visiting the library, having silly or quiet time at home, putting them to bed, doing their laundry, tidying up, changing diapers, cooking for them, preparing all sorts of meals, doing grocery shopping, soothing them when they were upset about something, discipline them, reading books, homework supervising, teaching them German and how to write and so much more! And - the most important thing - I gained experience in living life!
Some highlights I used to do with the kids were: taking them to the
pottery place where we created awesome things for mother’s and
father’s day! We also visited some museums in Washington, D. C.
(like the Air and Space) or Edinburgh, hiking, went for ice-cream or dinner. And of course I tought some German words and songs.
Some of my skills: very patient, reliable, well organised, disciplined, strict but friendly, persistent, lovingly, warm hearted, empathetic, outgoing, sociable, flexible, adventurous, active, funny and silly in a positive way. As a musician I am also very individual and creative and love to try new things! I love travelling around the world, getting to know people, countries and their cultures.
As you can see, I do love children and the amount of time I can spend with them. If there is one thing I know for sure: kids are my calling!
That is why I started studying social education in Berlin.
I will have my bachelor's degree in social pedagogy in July 2018. Therefore looking for a position starting around September 2018. Earlier or later is negotiable for the right family.
What I am looking for is a warm hearted and welcoming family who love
children as much as I do! It does not matter in what area you live - we have to connect and we should both be happy having a great time together!
Thank you again for taking the time to go through my profile and I am
looking forward to hearing from you!!
Yours,
sincerely
Kadie.
