Hi there! My name is Oriane, I am looking to work in the field of childcare and special needs care in Montreal. I am a third year psychology student with a minor in languages at Concordia University. I've had experience working with a child who has cerebral palsy for two years, and being a swimming instructor alongside a tutor all these years, I've specialized in teaching non-verbal/autistic children how to swim. I am currently part of a research team in my university which is looking into the way our brain processes language and stores information. Ideally, even though a career in research is very appealing, I would love to work with children. Some of my most cherished memories are with the people who have taken care of me as a child, whether it be grandparents or a babysitter, a nanny, etc. I would like to provide such care to a family that needs it!

I believe children do not need constant entertainment and catering to.. it is as important to socialize as it is to learn to play and read independently. Learning to complete age appropriate chores boosts mastery.
Very nuturing, relationship focused and I use gentle discipline. Children usually love me because I am firm, playful, funny & let them explore their environment( safely).

I have completed Special Care Counseling in specialized care across the lifespan at Vanier College, therefore I can provide care/services to typical children, special needs children( intellectual delays /speech delays). Here’s a quick summary of my experience in special needs:
Over the summer of 2017, I worked as paraprofessional at a summer school program where I provided 1:1 support to a grade 1 student.
In the spring of 2017, I was given a long-term (~1 month) substitute teaching job as a middle school paraprofessional. During that time I worked closely with teens who had challenges ranging from minor behavioural issues, to autism, ADHD, persistent depressive disorder, and ODD.
Over the summer of 2018, I worked at a residence for adults living with severe and persistent psychiatric disorders. Most notably, I was trained in administering medication.
Last summer (2019) I worked as a special needs camp counselor at the YM-YWHA’s inclusive summer camp.
Over the past year, I have been helping to facilitate various programs at the Y. Right now, I’m teaching art to young adults with special needs.

My name is Emma (she/her) and I am a student of psychology at Concordia University, working to complete by BAHon within the next 2-3 years. I moved to Montreal in September 2020 from Victoria, BC, where I worked as a casual support worker at the Garth Homer Society, a program providing services to adults with cognitive and/or developmental disabilities. Due to the staffing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, I was reallocated to a position in GHS's Residential Care program, which provides 24/7, fully supported care to seniors with cognitive and/or developmental disabilities. Previous to my employment at the Garth Homer Society, I volunteered at a school for the visually impaired in England, where I provided support in a "house parent" role within the residential side of the school, and took on a variety of support roles during the school day. My experience living and working in England was what pushed me into a career in psychology and ignited my passion for community support work.
