About who needs care: My father has been in a wheelchair for almost 10 years. He's been able to navigate daily tasks like bathing toileting cooking etc. but is having increasing difficulty due to congestive heart failure and general weakness caused by age. I've arranged for meals on wheels which has helped.
His interests are limited by his lack of mobility however he reads a lot; newspapers magazines and books. He is attempting to teach himself to play the piano and to become computer literate. He also spends a fair amount of time watching TV; primarily news and educational programming and he's a huge Patriots fan.
His ideal day revolves around reading eating and TV with the other activities thrown in on a less consistent basis. Ideally a caregiver could encourage him to perform his PT exercises regularly and ensure he's taking his medication.
About the care needs: Somebody who is patient and is willing to listen to life stories. His short term memory is spotty but he can tell you what he had for breakfast in 1953 and enjoys talking about his past.
No specialized skills but a willingness to do what needs to be done in terms of occasional incontinence and possibly bathing.
If they have an interest in the Patriots and Tom Brady that would be a plus.
Services needed include: meal preparation, errands / shopping, light housekeeping, companionship, feeding, and bathing / dressing.
