Weekly Topic: Weather
GIGIL's Virtual STEM Camp provides a live classroom experience from the convenience of home which allows children to explore their natural curiosities and introduces the scientific method in a fun, creative way! Our camp will enhance and compliment their natural curiosity to explore the way the world works while observing, asking questions, testing, and reflecting on findings.

This week of GIGIL's Virtual + Live Summer Camp includes everything from rain to shine! Our lessons will touch on topics including weather patterns, weather forecasting and why weather changes with the seasons.

Day 1: Our first lesson will introduce the different types of weather patterns and children will track weather throughout the week to determine a pattern.

Day 2: We will get a closer look at a few different types of weather and re-create it with a snowstorm in a cup and the water cycle in a bag!

Day 3: How can we categorize seasons? What types of weather are associated with each season? We’ll be analyzing weather patterns and writing down our observations.

Day 4: How does the weather affect the clothing that we wear? We will discuss the importance of weather forecasting as it helps humans prepare and plan. Students will come up with a wardrobe plan of their own!

Day 5: Oh no! There is a rainstorm coming to town and we need prepare by creating a structure that will withstand heavy rain and wind! Children will be given supplies to build a structure strong enough to survive the rainstorm.

ALL LEARNING + EXPERIMENT MATERIALS INCLUDED WITH REGISTRATION! You'll receive your STEM Camp Kit in the mail before your scheduled camp date. This kit will include most, if not all, of the materials and supplies required to conduct this camp at home.

This is a week long camp that consists of 2.5 hour classes each day. Each class will include activities that incorporate at least two components of STEM! Since this is a Virtual + Live camp, we will meet via Zoom each day at our scheduled time. Children should be prepared before each class with their STEM Kits and supplies readily available. Parent supervision is required.
