Seeking care for my mother in her 70s. Services needed: bathing / dressing, meal preparation, help staying physically active, transportation. Looking for someone with 3+ years of experience caring for seniors. Specialized care needs: support for chronic illness, nursing experience. Female caregiver preferred. A little more about my mother: she can be lethargic, pleasant, outgoing, independent. A few months ago she got a really bad infection in her pancreas and liver after having stints put in her bile ducts and she became septic and we almost lost her. At one point her kidneys shut down and had to go on dialysis and eventually her kidneys started working again but has trouble making it to the bathroom. After laying in a hospital bed for 6 weeks she lost all strength in her legs and has been in Rehabilitation center since November 29th and has been learning how to walk again and is getting stronger. Her insurance won't pay for care there and is costing her $1, 550 a week. She will have new stints put in on January 21st and then her goal is to come home on January 24th but as a worried daughter that is still afraid for her to be alone and unable to quit work to care for her, I feel this could be an ideal thing for her. I'm looking for someone who is patient, chatty, strong, fond of pets. Someone who is kind and gentle and patient, she's slow moving right now and can walk approximately 60 ft before her legs get weak. She loves animals specifically labrador retrievers and loves to talk about them since she lost her own lab about a year ago. Mom needs to make sure she keeps up with walking around and trying to gain more muscle strength in her legs and would be helpful to have someone encouraging to get her up and moving. She's a very sweet and loving person to everyone and just want her to be safe at home. Mom has always been a very independent lady and used to work in a nursing home as an aid and she's struggling with now having to be someone who needs help as she's always been the caregiver who also took care of her sister who passed of liver cancer. I worry about her trying to get into the shower without help since her legs are so weak and would possibly need help trying to fix something to eat.
