I have a daughter that is 28 years of age. I've worked in education as a paraprofessional, Library/Media Teaching Assistant, and an Attendance Coordinator fro 2 decades. Unfortunately because of budget restraints and economy, I've been laid off. I am presently working for a family in my home town for 2 young boys, ages 10~8 since 2012. I've cared for not only my daughter but the children in my neighborhood and have been officially named the "Nanny of the Neighborhood." I've also provided 24 hour care for an elderly lady in Newport, RI. I continue to care for my niece's children a 5-year-old daughter and 3-year-old son on an on call basis. I've cared for my own sister who is disabled. She is 48 years of age and is nonverbal, but responds to verbal prompts. This is and will forever be hands on responsibilities: bathing, feeding, hygiene, medicine preparation and behavioral care. She is now in a group home, but we as a family still care for her on weekends and holidays. I've been a Religious Education Teacher, Girl Scout Leader, Cheer leading Coach, Volunteer for a Performing Arts center, Party Planner and a Corporator for an Association for Retarded Citizens. I would love to discuss the possibility to interview with you regarding the care needed for your family/household. I'm looking to assist with the care of children or adults. My background and personal experience caring for my handicapped sister, special education secretary, and home companionship for elderly would hopefully be of benefit to you. My desired schedule would be 1st shift Monday-Friday, flexibility if needed with weekends off. I would like to maintain the school calendar schedule if possible. On a final note, I would like to add that my approach to caring for children is very old school. I make sure they are responsible and respectful, but allow them the freedom to express themselves either by playtime or having adventures with me in the great outdoors. I'm a nature girl at heart. I love to take walks with my dog along hiking trails, go to parks/museums, or just flying kites, gardening, playing basketball, dodge ball, baseball, tennis, volleyball, riding bikes, whatever it takes to get outdoors. My motto as it has been with all the children I've handled is "Direction then Affection." My biggest pleasures are going to Broadway shows, horse shows, fireworks displays, having game night with my family and friends, and entertaining guests for dinner by the fire in or outside.
