My son absolutely loves grocery trips with me, because I make it FUN and ENGAGING for him! There are so many fun ways to present language learning opportunities to your little one out in the community, and the grocery store is easily one of my favorite places to do so. 🛒 Try these activities the next time you’re at the supermarket with your little one, and let me know how it went! • I Spy: Give your child 3-4 clues about an object and encourage them to guess what the item is! Ex: “I’m thinking of something that’s cold, it goes in the fridge, it comes from a cow, and we drink it!” • Scavenger Hunts: Choose a few items on your grocery list, and give your child hints as to where the item may be. Ex: “We’re looking for an apple. Where do you think an apple could be?” • Encourage independence: By allowing our child to make choices (ex: picking their own produce or choosing between an apple and a pear), or by encouraging our child to assist us with specific tasks (i.e. putting items in the cart, helping weigh and bag produce, etc.). • Labeling: This is wonderful for beginning language learners!
