Sleep Training For Infants

Sleep Training For Infants

My niece has been asking about sleep training for infants. I had never even heard about sleep training for infants. When I was raising my kids I never thought about sleep training my babies. I never knew there was such a thing. It surprised me to think that you could actually train your baby to sleep.

She went on to explain to me that sleep is so important for babies and humans in general. She said that your brain is most active when you are sleeping and it is very important in the first year of life to develop good sleeping habits.

As we sat at the table she scribbled out a plan for when her baby would sleep. She explained that through sleep training you could teach your child to practice sleeping and therefore create better sleeping habits that will carry on with them throughout their life.

She has a list of things she will and won’t do in order to help her baby learn to sleep well. She has decided not to nurse him to sleep. If he is sleepy she will put him down for a nap before he is actually asleep. She thinks by the time her baby is around 6 months old she will be able to put him down for bed at seven and wake him up around seven. This is crazy to me.

Do you think I can train my husband to sleep? Or is it too late?
