Love the Movie "Brave"? Here's How to Make a "Princess Merida" Costume!

As part of the Care.com Halloween costume series, here's how to turn your daughter into a Brave princess.

Did your daughter love the fiery new Disney princess from the movie Brave? This Halloween, dress your little one up as Princess Merida...but keep her away from mischievous witches.

Materials:

  • Forest green or teal-colored dress
  • Wide gold ribbon, about 5 feet long
  • Sticks
  • Nylon string
  • Brown construction paper
  • Long curly red wig or hair crimper
  • Headband or tiara
  • White tights
  • Gold ballet flats or sandals
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Glue
  • Teddy bear

Step 1: Trim dress with gold ribbon by tying one long piece around the waist to make a belt. Tape the second long piece to the front of the belt, so it's hanging straight down in a single sash. Tape the two shorter pieces of gold ribbon at the bottom of the dress' sleeves to make cuffs.

Step 2: To make a homemade bow and arrow, cut a piece of nylon string that is about 4 inches longer than the stick. Tie the string to both ends of the stick. To make arrows, cut triangles out of construction paper and glue them to the ends of the sticks.

Step 3: Put on wig or crimp hair with crimper or tight curlers. Add tiara or headband.

Step 4: Complete costume with white tights, gold shoes and bear.
