Arizona - Home Care

Many families choose to place their elderly loved ones in a senior care facility, but for others, this may not be the route they would like to take. For those families who are not interested in assisted living or nursing homes, a great alternative is home care. Home care refers to a program in which a caregiver visits an elderly person on a regular basis and assists them with their day-to-day activity.

There are two types of home care: non-medical home care and skilled medical home care. Each has different facets and is extremely helpful to the seniors who require extra assistance.

Non-medical home care is more of an assistive service than a treatment-based service. This type of care is ideal for a senior who needs assistance with typical daily activities, but does not need intensive medical treatment. Non-medicalhome care providersoften help with chores, cleaning, cooking, errands, and keeping the elderly person comfortable. Some providers can help with hands-on care like bathing assistance, dressing, and feeding.

A senior who requires intensive medical care at most hours of the day is the most likely candidate for skilled medical home care. Skilled medical home care refers to hospital level care at the home of the patient. A nursing assistant visits on a daily basis and administers the necessary treatments for a given patient (infusion therapy, wound care, pain relief).
